THIS IS PAT BRISSON.

She writes easy-to-read
chapter books.

This is Bertie.
He is in second grade.

Two of Pat's books are about him.

The books are HOT FUDGE HERO and
BERTIE'S PICTURE DAY.
Diana Cain Bluthenthal drew the pictures.

This is Pat in second grade.

This is Sister Mary Hugh, Pat's teacher.

One day, Sister Mary Hugh was reading
a story to Pat's class.
It was about a storm.
The rain poured down.
Lightning streaked across the sky.
Thunder boomed.
Pat could see the storm in her mind.
It seemed so real.

When the story was over
it was time to go home.
A boy in the class went to the cloakroom
and brought Sister Mary Hugh's umbrella
to her at her desk.

Sister Mary Hugh looked surprised.
"But Andrew," she said,
"I don't need my umbrella.
The sun is shining!"
Everybody laughed.
Everybody except Pat.
She was getting ready
to bring Sister her rain boots.
That's how real
the storm seemed to her.

Pat never forgot that stories
have power and magic in them.

She never forgot
her second grade teacher, either.
HOT FUDGE HERO
is dedicated to Sister Mary Hugh,
who taught Pat to read,
and showed her
the power of stories.

Pat also wrote
LITTLE SISTER, BIG SISTER.

Diana Cain Bluthenthal
drew the pictures
for this book, too.

Edna is the little sister.
Hester is the big sister.
Sometimes they get along well.
Sometimes they don't.
But they always love each other.

Pat has two big sisters,
Mary Beth and Kathy.
Mostly, they all got along well.
They always loved each other, too.
They also have two brothers,
Tom and Kevin.

Here's a picture
of all five kids.
It was taken a lo-o-o-ng
time ago.
